Isbell is the King of Americana Music!

Jason Isbell's show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Friday, October 23, was an amazing homecoming for Music City's latest favorite son. The former Drive-By Trucker and his band, including his wife Amanda Shires, performed an excellent set of 16 Isbell/DBT songs, and then they followed it with a five-song encore. Everything was great, but for me the highlight of the show was Isbell's cover of the Rolling Stones' "Sway," a tune that worked beautifully in his hands--it was almost as if Mick and Keith wrote it with Isbell in mind, years before Isbell's birth! There is no doubt that Isbell's eclectic mix of country, rock, folk, blues, and even a hint of punk is the very definition of what Americana music can be. His Nashville shows always sell out, but if you can catch him in another venue, by all means do so!
